The Sleepy Hollow Legends 13 year-old team had been looking forward to playing in the Championship game in the Westchester Baseball Association league on June 6, 2010. They were going into the game with a record of 10-2, having beaten top travel teams across Westchester, Rockland, and New York City. They were feeling confident and ambitious.
Along with their coach and mentor, Joey Good, and assistant coach, Richie Doyle, these boys had been in this position before in other seasons on their TNT travel teams – getting ready for playoff games, even a championship game last Fall. But they’d never gone all the way.
Except that this day was different. Coach Good was feeling differently and so was his team. They had grown together as baseball players, as a team, and as young adults. Pitchers and catchers were communicating together like never before; outfielders knew what to expect; and the infielders were giving their secret signals for double plays and tag outs.
With outstanding pitching, clutch batting, and flawless fielding that defined their whole season, it all came together. After three delays due to rain, wind and sand storms, and even a lightning scare, the Legends took the title with victories of 8-3 and 3-0 on Championship day.
Congratulations to the players: Jordan Brown, Cole Chang, Luke Colley, Jack Corcoran, John Cummins, Joey Good, Matty Dorazio, Aaron Ippolito, Alex Laub, and Ray Rodriguez.
