A five-session poetry writing workshop for teenagers, guided by noted poet and teacher, Joanna Fuhrman, will be held at the Irvington Public Library on March 25, April 1, April 8, April 15 and May 6.

Workshop sessions will begin at 7 p.m. Joanna Fuhrman is the author of three volumes of poetry (Freud in Brooklyn; Ugh, Ugh Ocean; Moraine) and has contributed to several poetry magazines. Ms. Fuhrman will demonstrate that poetry can take many forms, such as poetry written for the page, performance poetry, freestyle poetry, writing in rhyme and rejecting rhyme. Teen workshop participants will be encouraged to express themselves through writing poetry. An anthology of poems completed during this workshop will be gathered together and published. On May 6th at 7 p.m. there will be a publication party, with public readings and refreshments! Each workshop participant will be given a copy of the poetry anthology to take home with them.

The Teen Poetry Westchester! workshop is part of an initiative by Poets House, a literary center and 50,000-volume poetry library based in Manhattan, whose mission is to invite poets and the public to step into the living tradition of poetry. Poetry Westchester! has been funded by the Westchester Library System through the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Advance registration and a commitment to attend all workshops is required.
