Sleepy Hollow Journalism Students Report, Hanukkah

Please enjoy this piece from SHHS Journalism Student Ariana Cember.

My break was unbelievably relaxing. I finally had time to sleep-in late, and go to bed as late as I wanted to.

No longer was I waking up at 6:00 every morning, to make sure I got ready in time to catch the bus; I could arise at any time I pleased. Although having a little brother makes sleeping-in rather troublesome, I was able to drown him out and fall back asleep.

I was really glad that I had two whole weeks to spend quality time with my friends and family. Hanukkah is one of my favorite holidays and, this year, my whole family spent it together. I feel so connected with my religion and culture every time we light the menorah, just as the Maccabees did thousands of years ago. Nothing can beat a latke and applesauce, but unfortunately for Hanukkah, we had store-bought latkes, which are the worst. I felt so fortunate to just share the holiday season with those closest to me. My break was very enjoyable, and I can't wait until winter break in February!
