In a game that was Sleepy Hollow’s to win, they didn’t.
After scoring on a 27-yard touchdown run on their first possession, the Horsemen failed to convert the extra point. An all too common problem of excessive penalties, namely holding, cost Sleepy Hollow and stalled offensive drives in the first half.
In the second half Sleepy Hollow couldn’t convert a fourth-and-one on Ossining’s 8-yard line. Late in the game the Horsemen held Ossining’s offense on their 10 yard line and stifled a scoring drive. Sleepy Hollow gained possession only to fumble and watch Ossining score on the next set of downs.
In a game that separated the two teams by one point for much of the time it was Ossining that capitalized on a Horsemen pass interference call with a little over two minutes left in the game. The muddied maroon jerseys went on to score and their 25 points were five points more than the Horsemen at the final whistle.
