During my four years at school I have achieved many things. When I look back at everything that I have left behind I see that it was worth it. Every day of my life I have tried my best at school. During these years at Sleepy Hollow High School I have learned a lot of things, and at the same time, I have enjoyed experiences that have helped shape me into the person I am today.
In the Spring of 2010, English teacher Anthony Baxter had 12th grade English students reflect on their high school experiences and what they looked forward to in the future.
I’m an Ecuadorian girl who came to the U.S three years ago. I spoke no English. This difficult language was one of the factors that had an impact on me while I was at school. Every day I tried to work harder in order to learn this language. I am proud of the progress I have made in mastering this difficult language in such a short time. I have worked hard and achieved high grades. My record shows that I am determined to overcome obstacles and to reach for perfection. Sometimes working in a different language took me more time, but I was always willing to spend however much time it took to achieve excellence.
Sometimes I made mistakes and they were hard to accept. Today this is different because now I am a person who uses mistakes as lessons and makes use of them to grow. I take every bad experience as an inspiration to keep going and to accomplish my goals. Every new piece of information I get enriches me. Education is very important because it is the key to life's success. I love to learn new things, especially if they are related to science. I passionately want to study medicine and one day to become a doctor. My dream is to provide health care to underprivileged populations who so badly need it and can't afford it.
Now that I’m in the U. S., I see endless opportunities for which I am really thankful. I will continue seeking my dreams in college because I’m focused on a better future. I want to study in a place that will challenge me academically and expand my knowledge, adding to my life experiences.
