I would be remiss not to mention it, but I believe that this community and the surrounding region may be about to go through an extended period of unprecedented upheaval. Until more questions receive substantive answers relating to the negative impacts of the proposed new Tappan Zee Bridge construction project, the residents of Tarrytown, Irvington and Sleepy Hollow have good reason to be gravely concerned. That also goes for Nyack and other communities across the bridge. In fact, the ranks of those communities and those people who stand to be negatively affected in a serious way may reach much farther – from Manhattan to Albany, from remote points in Connecticut and New Jersey and beyond.

Irvington was home to singer, guitarist and actor Dominic Chianese from 1981 through 1993. It was during these dozen years that it became clear to him that his music gave meaning to lives of the elderly who, by his own account, were simply waiting to be engaged in some meaningful way.

When the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) inspected all bridges within the State a year ago, Tarrytown’s H Bridge received a red flag for its southwest support column and curbing, according to Village Administrator Michael Blau.
Recently the Board of Trustees approved a $6,000 contract with Experion Design Group (formerly John Myer Consulting) from Tarrytown. Experion will provide design work and construction supervision for the temporary shoring of the column which is located on the riverside of the railroad tracks.
