It Takes a Village – A Taxing Look at Where Your Money Goes

Ah, Westchester! The schools – and, come summer, the pools. The many fab restaurants, the neighborhood haunts. The lush abundant greenery – the gorgeous sprawling scenery. Okay, enough bad poetry, let’s get down to brass tacks, er, taxes. The oft-quoted phrase about the only two things anyone can be sure of in life generally refers to death and taxes, meaning income taxes – though in Westchester the bite is just as strong, if not stronger, for property taxes. Note, too, that according to the Census Bureau 61.4% of Westchester housing is owner-occupied.

Allow Them To Love Us

I have written in this newspaper before about animals – pets, service dogs, horses, etc. I love animals, have done much volunteer work with animals, including newborn guide dogs, and as a child, actually thought I might become a veterinarian.  Or a zookeeper. I had this image of myself with meat on a long stick feeding a lion. Animals are good for our mental and physical health, they work as service and therapy animals, and my own dog did therapy work for several years spreading cheer.
