Autumn Harvest at the Equus…

I will start off by saying, actually exclaiming, that I, my family and the few friends I retain after 20 years in the newspaper business, relish going to the Castle in Tarrytown. I will add that, as with any great experience, like a good marriage or raising children to become contributing adults, there are bumps and setbacks on roads in life and in business.

J.P. Doyle’s Offers Free Online App for Ordering

J.P. Doyle’s Restaurant in Sleepy Hollow is excited to introduce their new free App, available through iTunes. Customers can use the app to place orders and check out online to expedite a quicker takeout dining experience.  Chef Nicholas Bell notes the efficiency of the online ordering process saying, “On a busy evening, we were delegating one member of our staff just to answer phones for pick-up orders.  We now can have those orders directly sent to our kitchen from your smartphone or tablet. It is just so much more efficient now.” Customer credit card information is entered through the app and can be saved for future online orders.  The average time to place a food order for pickup is under one minute.

The convenience of online food ordering is traveling ever further into the forefront of public view, but the scope of delivery options has not changed much.  When Austin Schatz graduated from college and returned to his home in Westchester County, he was struck with the idea that there was a market for upscale food delivery.

Let’s get the name out of the way right away. A craft beer sanctuary called “the Oath” is grounds for at least a two-beer discussion about what the name means. In this writer’s case I found out the answer by the end of one classic draft Belgian-style ale. “The Oath wasn’t our first or second choice. The name changed umpteen times before we selected it.
